As You Anticipate My Own Endorsement of Sharon El-Amin, Please Review These Others for Her Election to the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Board of Education on 6 November 2018

I will soon be making a formal endorsement for Sharon El-Amin in her candidacy for an At-Large seat on the Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education.

As you anticipate my own official endorsement, please review the following endorsements, very notably including that of Larry McKenzie (along with wife Pamela Wilkins-McKenzie), current basketball coach at North High School, former coach in the same role at Henry High School, and community member who has served as a worker and leader for numerous social service agencies in North Minneapolis.

Please now review these endorsements for Sharon El-Amin in her campaign for one of two At-Large seats that are up for election on Tuesday, 6 November;  these endorsements are found on her website, Sharon4Schools:

Nekima Levy Pounds (formerly Nekima Levy Pounds)

Civil Rights Attorney and former President, Minneapolis NAACP

I am truly excited about supporting Sharon El-Amin in her race to become a Minneapolis Public Schools Board member.  It is clear that Sharon has the needs and best interests of children and families at the core of her campaign and her work in the community.  Sharon has a fresh and powerful voice and will be the change agent that the district needs to overcome its challenges.

Ellen Stuart

Educator for 25 years

As an educator and a product of the Minneapolis Public Schools, having the support of a board member that has the pulse of the families we serve is so very important.  Sharon has been an active community member who has demonstrated in many experiences her loyalty to people, not systems.  The students from North Minneapolis and across the city must have a voice, an advocate, a champion.  Sharon El-Amin has already been and continues to be all of these.

Sara Freeman

North High School Finance club Leader

I have seen Sharon’s dedication to our students at North High School, where she isn’t just the head of the PTA, she’s the first person parents, staff, and teachers call if we need anything. Sharon has always shown up for North High School students and staff, and that’s exactly how she’ll show up for all Minneapolis Public Schools students when elected to the School Board.  Sharon’s commitment to social justice and leadership on the north-side is exactly what we need more of on the School Board.  I can’t wait to vote for her in November.

Larry McKenzie

North Polars Coach, Pillsbury United Communities

Minneapolis residents, we are fortunate to have Sharon El-Amin as a candidate for the Board of Education.  Sharon has deep roots in the community and has demonstrated her dedication and commitment in numerous ways through her service.  She will bring a genuine belief that ALL kids, regardless of zip code, are capable learners and a desire that ALL kids deserve a high quality education.  I have worked with her and know that she supports active parental involvement along with total transparency in the decision-making of issues impacting Minneapolis students, staff, and administration.

I know that by electing Sharon El-Amin to the Board of Education Minneapolis families will have someone advocating for their children’s success in the same manner she has advocated for her own children in the Minneapolis Public Schools.

We encourage you to support Sharon El-Amin.

Larry and Pamela Wilkins-McKenzie

Mercedes Reynolds

Assistant Principal, South High School

Sharon El-Amin has high expectations for ALL students and an unwavering passion for supporting the Northside community.  She has my endorsement for Minneapolis Public Schools School Board because she believes that all students can be successful and so do I!

Dr. Chandra Green

Former North High teachers and alumnus

I am excited to endorse Sharon El-Amin for School Board because I have been an educator for over 20 years and have had the opportunity to work with and get to know Sharon El-Amin, who has consistently supported Minneapolis Public Schools as a business owner, community member, and parent.  She sincerely believes in our children and the need for all of us to positively impact our students.  In the 25 years that I have known Sharon, I have always admired her dedication to public service.  She is a visionary leader and a proponent of Minneapolis Public Schools.  I am confident that in voting for Sharon El-Amin we are taking a stand for our children.
