construction projects overseen by the operations Division are given in the MPS
Comprehensive Design, presented in the
appendix. Transportation route redesign
for buses running to the various school sites of the Minneapolis Public Schools
is one of the key motivations for and features of the Design. Currently, MPS transportation costs total
more that $40, illion, at least 40% more than costs of some other districts of
comparable student population sizes.
Making community schools attractive options and locating programming
such as Language Immersion so that students follow cost-effective sequences in
moving from preK-5 to middle school and on to high school, thus reducing
transportation costs, are offered as ways to redirect funds currently expended
for transportation toward raising student academic proficiency level.
