Professional Training of Division Chiefs With Academic Decision-Making Responsibility at the Minneapolis Public Schools

Chief of Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Accountability (REAA) Eric Moore served concomitantly as Chief of Academics, Leadership, and Learning for a brief phase of autumn 2018;  Moore is among academic decision-makers at the Minneapolis Public Schools.  In the aftermath of academic year 2018-2019, Ed Graff assumed prime responsibility for those duties associated with Chief Academic officer.  Until summer 2019, Cecilia Saddler had for many years served as Associate Superintendent and then Deputy Chief of Academics, Leadership, and Learning and in the latter capacity headed the Department of Teaching and Learning.  Saddler will not be employed by the Minneapolis Public Schools during academic year 2019-2020.  Leadership of the Department of Teaching and Learning now goes to a new Executive Director of that department, Aimee Fearing.

With Saddler no longer at the Minneapolis Public Schools, Fearing becomes the second most important decision-maker as to academic matters at the district, next to Superintendent Ed Graff.  Eric Moore passed briefly through a phase during which he was dubbed chief of academics and then the interim figure in that position.  Formally, Moore has returned to the single position of REAA chief, but he still weighs in on academic policy in meetings with Graff and Fearing and the weekly assemblages of Graff’s cabinet, comprised of all the chiefs, plus the general counsel and the heads of special education, multilingual education,  and communications.
