Facility improvement projects fall under two broad categories:

1. Capital Improvements: Include significant renovations
and remodeling to
buildings and ground, or
upgrades to key systems such as adding new security
equipment or HVAC (heating,
ventilation and air conditioning).
2. Maintenance: Ongoing
work to repair and maintain facilities to keep them
running efficiently and in
acceptable condition: replacing, for
example, a
school’s roof or boiler.
Deferred maintenance refers to
maintenance work that must be postponed
until funds are identified to
complete the work.
