Let's Talk Sports!


The Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Athletics Department offers 35 programs for students in grades 7-12.    Bring completed 2018-19 Athletic Forms (located in the 2018-19 Program Info and Eligibility Information tabs) to your high school athletic director prior to participation.   Middle School Athletic Programming has been shifted to Community Education, call 612.668.3939 for more information.  

Educational Benefits

Families are reminded to complete Educational Benefits Application in order to qualify for reduced athletic participation fees.  The Application for Educational Benefits can be completed at SchoolCafé.com.

  1. Visit SchoolCafé.com and login with your username and password.
  2. Click on Eligibility Benefits, then click on Apply.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete your online application.

An eligibility notice letter will arrive in the mail within 10 business days.

Paper applications and letters will be sent out in the mail.

Transportation Policy

Transportation is not provided to practices for any student in any grade but is provided to games with pickup and drop off at the partner or community high school. The same transportation policy applies to middle school students participating in high school sports. 

Winning in the 9th

"Winning in the 9th" was developed in partnership with the Minnesota Twins and outlines the importance of 9th-grade students starting their high school experience with positive academic success!

In order to better serve the needs of students, Minneapolis Public Schools have partnered with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) to provide K-8 and Middle School students with more athletic opportunities. Contact MPRB for additional information.
