As charter school advocates celebrated the establishment of the first such institution in Minnesota thirty years ago this past summer, Joe Nathan and other likely suspects vigorously asserted the virtues of these publicly funded schools that supposedly retain academic accountability requirements while otherwise gaining decision-making power pertinent to curriculum and pedagogy.
But charter schools siphon funds from public coffers while in the aggregate evidencing even worse student academic performance than mainline public schools.
