MPS Leadership Update, January 2018

Among the top leadership positions given in the organizational chart of the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), those occupied by Ed Graff (Superintendent), Michael Thomas (Chief of Academics, Leadership, and Learning), Eric Moore (Chief of Accountability, Innovation, and Research), Carla Steinbach [Huther] (Associate Superintendent [Middle Schools and High Schools]), Ron Wagner (Associate Superintendent [K-8]), Laura Cavender (Associate Superintendent [K-8]), and Lucilla Davilla (Associate Superintendent [K-8]) have direct impact on academic decision-making at the Minneapolis Public Schools.  These staff members are therefore listed along with others who have particularly important decision-making responsibilities for the MPS academic program in another nearby article as you scroll on down this blog.

Others staff positions, including those occupied by Ibrahima Diop (Chief Financial Officer), Karen Devet (Chief Operations Officer), Fadi Fadhil (Chief Information Officer), Amy Moore (General Counsel) and Suzanne Kelly (Chief of Staff) are more concerned with other functional responsibilities.

But given that this is the top leadership group of the Minneapolis Public Schools, all of these top staff members should be keenly focused on the prime academic mission of the school district and embrace responsibility for the academic achievement of students.

These are highly paid staff members, thirteen in all, with salaries totaling $2,040,471---

for a mean leadership salary of $156,959.

Below I give these staff members by name, position, and salary, with accompanying job descriptions---  as given at the leadership portal of the MPS website.  In my substantially complete book (Understanding the Minneapolis Public Schools:  Current Condition, Future Prospect) I analyze the functions of each of these positions, the degree of need for each of these, and the performance efficacy of those who occupy the top leadership positions.  In forthcoming articles posted on this blog, I will share with my readers the snippets from the book that focus on each of these top leadership positions.
