Context for Viewing the KARE Documentary, “Love Them First”: Viewers Aptly Utilizing Their Analytical Skills Will Find Minneapolis Public Schools Incompetence in Many Places

For those of you who can be induced to consider the context for viewing the Minneapolis television station KARE-produced documentary, “Love Them First,” here as you scroll on down this article are pertinent academic results for Lucy Craft Laney Community School (a preK-5 elementary school) for academic years ending in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.

When you watch the documentary, notice the lack of focus on instructional quality that might actually have produced the hoped-for results, any identification of approaches to the teaching of mathematics or the literature to which children were presented that might have given them the breadth of vocabulary for raising comprehension levels.  Notice the complete absence of reference to the teaching of history, government, art, music, and the very slim evidence of instruction in teaching natural science.  Be aware of the abundance of specious reasoning and careless statements.  Be attentive to the foolishness that resulted in errant notification to principal Mauri Melander Friestleben of success that proved to be overstated;  be clear in this regard of how silly Superintendent Ed Graff looks at the occasion of his one meager appearance at the school.  Know that the irresponsible associate superintendent who incorrectly conveyed to Melander Friestleben that the school was off the list of schools making insufficient academic progress was >>>>>

>>>>>      Associate Superintendent Ron Wagner,

who lent the school no effective academic advice, a typical happenstance for the four associate superintendents of mainline schools, all of whom knock down $148,500 per year.

Note that Melander Friestleben, despite her vows to see the task through even amidst disappointments, nevertheless is no longer at Lucy Laney:

She replaced the failed principal of North High School,

>>>>>    Shawn Harris Berry, who typically got bumped upstairs and now---

I kid you not---

is the associate superintendent supervising all high schools.

In watching this documentary, the incisively attentive viewer will feel deep compassion for young people living challenged lives at the urban core---  but bemoan the school district incompetence that a close viewing of this most likely unintentionally revealing film presents.
