The
Minneapolis Public Schools Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement has staff
members who are avowedly committed to the mission and vision given on the
pertinent portion of the MPS website, as follows:
The
Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement is proud to partner with
students, families and the greater community to ensure the best possible
education for all our children. The face of our office includes our network of
family liaisons, who facilitate communication between schools and families, and
staff at MPS family resource centers, where information on services and
programs supporting parenting and family assistance is provided.
Our
Mission:
The
Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement builds the capacity of MPS,
school, staff, families, students and the community to establish partnerships
that strengthen student learning and improve schools.
Our Vision:
MPS
will welcome every family and every student, actively engaging them as partners
in student learning and school improvement.

Staff members of the MPS
Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement serve useful functions as
liaisons to students, families, and certain communities of Minneapolis.
But members of this
office should be more assertively involved in the direct provision of services
to struggling families and in referral to other sources of services needed to
provide family economic and functional stability.
As the K-12 Revolution
sweeps the halls of the Davis Center (MPS central offices, 1250 West Broadway),
the Department of Office of Student, Family, and Community engagement will be
eliminated; its staff members will be
incorporated into the new Department of Resource Provision and Referral, a
large department serving a function second in importance only to that served by
newly trained teachers.
In the thorough
reorganization entailed in the K-12 Revolution slated to remake the Minneapolis
Public Schools in the months to come, the newly energized academic and family
outreach programs will be at the core of the transformation that will bring
knowledge-intensive, skill-replete education to MPS students of all demographic
descriptors.
