Student Academic Rates
Academic Years Ending
2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018,
2019, 2021, and 2022
There are forty-one (41) elementary, eleven (11)
middle or preK-8 schools, twelve (12) high schools, and seven (7) specialized
programs in the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS); additionally, MPS contracts with eight (8)
private entities to provide alternative education to MPS students. These figures yield a total of sixty-four
(64) elementary, middle/preK-8, and high schools; the seven specialized programs bring the
total number of schools under MPS administration to seventy-one (71), with the
eight contracted alternative programs serving as additional options for MPS
students.
In this edition of Journal of the K-12
Revolution: Essays and Research from
Minneapolis, Minnesota, I provide student academic proficiency rates for
all MPS schools, as measured by performance on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments
(MCAs), administered in April of each
academic year. Figures are for academic
years ending in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. The MCAs were not administered in the
Covid-challenged academic year ending in 2020.
I have
disaggregated the data, derived from the Data Report Card given on the
Minneapolis Public Schools website, according to ethnicity, free/reduced lunch
status, English Language Learner (ELL) identification, and special education
enrollment. I have compiled this information.
Article #1
gives student proficiency rates for MPS elementary schools, followed by school
profiles for middle and preK-8 schools, conventional high schools,
unconventional high schools, and specialized programs in articles #2, #3, #4,
and #5 respectively.
