The Failure of Public Education to Address the Dilemmas of Human Ignorance and the Environmental Determinants of Behavior
Because our system of public education
in the United States is so crude, the bulk of humanity lives out the earthly
sojourn mired in ignorance and absent of any understanding of the psychological
forces that drive behavior.
The ignorance is due to the infancy of
humanity with regard to the age of the universe and the earth; the psychological incomprehension results
from the failure to draw the necessary conclusions concerning the environmental
determinants of human behavior >>>>>
The Consequences of Humanity’s Youth
Humanity demonstrates all the time the
consequences of being only 14 hundred millionths (.00000014) as old as the
universe and only forty-four millionths (.000044) as old as the earth.
As to the consequences of humanity’s
youth, perpend
a very partial rendering of brutal
reality >>>>>
>>>>> Most
nations of Central and South America, Africa, and Asia are still mired in
governmental corruption and economic poverty;
comparable situations in Europe, North American, and Australia are
better only by comparison.
>>>>> War
continues and violent non-solutions to conflict dominate the globe; any suggestion that the prevailing situation
can abate would be considered utopian---
and yet if rationality prevailed, Enlightenment approaches applied, war
would end and violence would abate.
>>>>> White
men in Europe, Canada, and the USA still dominate governance, business, and the
family; even with considerable progress
over the last fifty years, statistical indicators continue to to show stark
inequities; feminists are mostly of the
pseudo sort, nonwhite ethnicities have not devised effective activist tactics
and strategies, and white men surely will not move on their own.
>>>>> And
a big part of the problem is defining progress, meaning, purpose, and satisfying
goals even as equity is sought---- In
the search for progress, toward what should humanity be progressing?
Human Ignorance of the Drivers of
Behavior
As to the consequences of human
ignorance of the drivers of behavior,
perpend yet again a very partial
rendering of brutal reality >>>>>
>>>>>
Almost all
of humanity lives out the earthly sojourn under the illusion of free will, thus
never understanding the environmental determinants of behavior that if
understood would, ironically, give people greater decision-making capability, a
measure of control through interaction with the environment within the
parameters of existence that ironically would bring people closer to the
conditions erroneously assumed to be volition.
>>>>> Even
radicals and revolutionaries tend to focus on bringing the old order down,
attacking the old regime, the social hierarchy, the government, the powerful,
without much planning for what shall replace Life As It Was.
>>>>> Thus,
again, if we want better education, greater prosperity, social equity--- toward what ends, in fulfillment of what
purposes, in the quest of Meaning that means exactly what?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The failure to define excellent
education is the consequence of failing to sit down with ample representation
from representatives of an array of gender and ethnic descriptors and having
the hard discussion as to the knowledge and moral principles that we want to
impart to our children.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We
don’t do this, because we don’t know.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> But
if we did, then in devising curriculum and establishing ethical principles,
we’d be on our way to creating a better world, overcoming our ignorance, and establishing the environmental
determinants that would make of us a much better fulfilled human species (whose
companion species would fare better, as well).
In deciding on the goals for the
overhaul of public education, we lay the foundation for a better world,
because,
>>>>> We
have finally decided who we are;
and
>>>>> we will send forth a
citizenry that can facilitate our becoming who want to be.
